Flights, many each day from Bangkok domestic terminal (next to Bangkok International Terminal).
In addition there are a few international direct flights to Chiang Mai.
Train, daylight and overnight train from Bangkok's Hau-Lampong station to Chiang Mai is comfortable and reasonably priced (approximately 650 for sleeper). Trip takes approximately 12 hours.
Bus, many during day and night from Bangkok's Mho-Chit bus terminal 2. Duration approximately 12 hours and fare approximately 650 Baht.
Drive your self, the road between Bangkok and Chiang Mai is very good, the journey is approximately 8 hours duration. Take highway 1 north then highway 11 at Lamphun.
